
SEOUL, December 31 – Novosti. North Korea launched its first ballistic missile in 2023 towards the Sea of Japan on Sunday Seoul time, the Yonhap news agency reported , citing South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The military analyzes the range, altitude and speed of the missile.
Earlier on Saturday, the DPRK fired three short-range ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan from Chunghwa County, Hwanghae Province . They flew approximately 350 kilometers with a maximum altitude of 100 kilometers.
Prior to this, on December 18, the DPRK tested systems for a reconnaissance military satellite on two medium-range ballistic missiles. On December 23, Pyongyang again launched two ballistic missiles, presumably with a solid-fuel engine, and on December 26, five DPRK drones penetrated South Korea. Also in the DPRK, since December 26, the 6th plenum of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of the DPRK (WPK) of the eighth convocation is being held.
According to the Yonhap news agency, the missile launches may be Pyongyang’s reaction to South Korea’s December 30 test of a solid-fuel launch vehicle.
In total, the DPRK launched about 70 missiles in 2022.
